"World Communion Sunday -- celebrated the first Sunday in October -- is one of the most venerable of “special Sundays.” The day has taken on new relevancy and depth of meaning in a world where globalization often has undermined peace and justice -- and in a time when fear divides the peoples of God's earth. On this day we celebrate our oneness in Christ, the Prince of Peace, in the midst of the world we are called to serve -- a world ever more in need of peacemaking." Now more than ever we know the need for peace in our world. And now more than ever we realize there are no simple answers. In times like these the church as a peculiar and essential role in bringing about those things that make for peace. Working for peace means...

seeking the well-being and dignity of all peoples, for they are created in God's image
speaking to powers that destroy the potential for life in all its fullness
caring for those who for a variety of reasons and circumstances are serving in the armed forces
being ambassadors of goodwill to innocent victims of war
providing help to communities and congregations where differences of opinion threaten to tear at the fabric of their shared identity
