Beginner Yoga

July 23, 2026

Beginner Yoga serves as an introduction to asana (posture practice), pranayama (breath control), and meditation techniques. This class is designed for the absolute beginner with no previous experience in the practice of yoga. Typically, classes move through a centering and pranayama practice, warm-ups, asana, relaxation, and meditation, with physical practice as the primary focus. Robin’s mission is to create a space for transformation in which students can uncover their full potential; influenced by her studies with Kripalu teachers, this is a “yoga of inquiry”—a means to self-discovery. With Robin Collen.

Class fee is by a free will donations, cash or check, Student donations will be given directly to a local organization that assists citizens with basic needs.

Robin received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in 2019. She has continued her yoga education through 75-hour trainings at Kripalu—(a) Teaching Pranayama: Essential Practices for Yoga Teachers, (b) Guiding Meditation for Transformational Yoga Teaching: Exploring the World Within and Teaching Kripalu Vinyasa: Breathe, Feel, Flow; she also received, at Kripalu, a Lakshmi Voelker 25-hour Chair Yoga Certification.

Of great influence on Robin’s interest in yoga is her life-long study and teaching of dance. She has BS and MS degrees in dance from the University of Oregon and a PhD in Dance from Texas Woman’s University. Most recently, she taught in the Dance Program at SUNY Potsdam for 27 years—1998-2025. Along with yoga courses, she taught ballet, modern dance, dance history, Pilates, dance pedagogy, choreography, Laban Movement Analysis, and improvisation. Robin is a member of New York State DanceForce.

Robin brings her knowledge and experiences from the dance world to her yoga teaching, consistently researching ways to make yoga available to everyone.
